THE BRITISH INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE
has established a system of governing, led by the Rector and Board of Directors and in accordance with its philosophy and Article 142 of Law 15, 1994, that allows all levels of the educational community to participate in decision-making.
CORPORATE ORGANISATIONAL ASSEMBLY
This is the governing body where major Institutional decisions of an innovative and strategic nature are taken. It is composed of the following members: Dr. Rafael Ortegón Rocha, Dr. Ricardo Ortegón Rocha, Sra. María Victorìa Navas de Ortegón, Sra. Beatriz Márquez de Ortegón, Dr. Guillermo Muñoz Penagos, Dr. Luis Alfonso Iriarte Uparela and Dr. Rubén Moreno Bermúdez.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Board of Directors, as the School’s highest administrative body, is active through its members in listening to the Rector and the Administrative and Financial Director and assisting in the approval of projects and the annual budget model to meet the needs of the School, driven by its Institutional Educational Project.
When necessary, committees are set up with a view to facilitating study and to meet the needs of the School.
RECTOR
The Rector is the legal representative of the School before the education authorities and the executor of the directives and decisions of the school governance. The Rector’s responsibilities are stipulated in the functions manual.
ADMINISTRATIVE AND FINANCIAL DIRECTOR
The Administrative and Financial Director is the legal representative of the institution before the legally constituted authorities.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
This is a purely consultative body (Act 1860 Article 20) that enables the participation of the educational community in the academic and administrative management of the School. It is formed by the Rector, who convenes and presides over it, and who, according to the above article has autonomy over the Board with regard to the discharging of its administrative and financial functions. |
The Board also comprises two representatives from the Parents Association, elected by the board of the Parents Association; two teacher representatives, elected by majority vote; a student representative elected by the Student Council from among the eleventh grade students; one ex alumni representative; and a representative from the private sector, which supports the running of the School.
ACADEMIC COUNCIL
This is a higher body whose function is to participate in the pedagogical orientation of the School. This Council, in our School, is composed of the Rector, who presides over it, the Coordinators from Early Years, Basic Primary, Basic Secondary and Middle, and te Heads of Department of each area defined in the curriculum.
COMMITTEE OF EVALUATION AND PROMOTION
The Committee of Evaluation and Promotion consists of up to three teachers, a parent representative who is not a teacher in the School, and the Rector, or his delegate, who convenes and presides over the committee; its aim is to define the promotion of students and make recommendations for reinforcement activities for students with difficulties.
DISCIPLINE AND COEXISTENCE COMMITTEE
The Discipline and Coexistence Committee comprises the Rector, or his delegate, who convenes and chairs the meetings, Formative Coordination, the Level Coordinators, some teachers, and the Psychologists. The committee has the task of assessing cases of serious breaches of discipline and cases of students who are repeatedly failing in the area of "Respect and general behavior" within the subject Citizenship and Civics - Social Behaviour.
STUDENT COUNCIL
This is the highest student body in the School and ensures the continued exercise of student participation in school life. It comprises a representative for each of the grades from Year 3 to Year 13, elected in the first four weeks of the academic calendar by secret ballot in separate assemblies composed of the students from each year group. The candidates receiving the second highest vote in each grade are the deputies.
