We are a bilingual international school that combines the national curriculum with that of the University of Cambridge and the prestigious International Baccalaureate, developing programs, both the Middle Years Programme and the Diploma Programme, in which we offer French as a third language, among other electives typical of these programs.

Additional Information

Our admissions process is very user-friendly and efficient, as it operates continuously and can be completed virtually. This means that it can be started anytime, anywhere, allowing parents and guardians to carry out other tasks simultaneously, such as updating their address, while the process is underway. This also means that students don't necessarily have to be present on the first day of classes; we can accept students at any time during the school year.

We accept children in Nursery who are 3 years old by July 31st of the year of admission. For Reception, children must be 4 years old by July 31st of the year of admission.

We primarily offer placements at EY. At the primary and secondary levels, placements are subject to availability at the end of the academic year and to the applicant demonstrating the skills and knowledge required for the level to which they are applying.

Steps for the Admission Process

Information Meeting

An informational meeting, either in person or virtually, will be held with the Admissions Coordinator to learn about the College and address any concerns.

Fill out forms

The forms and documents must be completed on the Open Apply platform using the link sent by email.

Admission Interview

After the documentation is approved, an interview will be scheduled with the psychologist in the corresponding section. Written tests will be administered in Primary and Secondary schools.

Process Results

Parents will be informed of the result. If accepted, an appointment will be scheduled with the Administrative and Financial Department to determine the educational investment.

Yes. In all our admissions processes, the applicant will have an interview with the school psychologist. If applying to primary or secondary school, they will take exams in English, Spanish, mathematics, and science. Depending on the grade level, a French exam may also be administered. All parents will have an in-person interview with the school psychologist.

Yes. We primarily offer places in Early Years (preschool). Primary and secondary levels are subject to space availability at the end of the academic year and the level recorded by applicants in the entrance exams.

The student must be 3 years old before July 31st of the year in which they enter the school.

No. They are not mandatory.

Yes. We offer international education from Year 1 in Early Years (preschool) through Year 6 (grade 4) with the Cambridge Assessment International Education program. From Year 7 (grade 5) through Year 11 (grade 9), we offer the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), and the IB Diploma Programme in Year 12 (grade 10) and Year 13 (grade 11). These programs enable students to direct their learning path and develop the skills and confidence they need to thrive and make a lasting difference.

Yes. We offer extracurricular activities from preschool through Y13, Monday through Saturday, at an additional cost.

Yes, we have a set homework schedule so as not to overload the student at home.

Classes are held from Monday to Friday.

  • Preschool: Monday to Thursday from 7:00 am to 12:15 pm, Friday from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm
  • Reception – Y1: Monday to Thursday from 7:00 am to 12:30 pm, Friday from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm
  • Y2 to Y6: Monday to Thursday from 7:00 am to 2:30 pm, Friday from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm
  • Y7 to Y13: Monday and Wednesday from 7:00 am to 3:20 pm, Tuesday and Thursday from 7:00 am to 2:30 pm, Friday from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm

Extracurricular activities take place from Monday to Friday.

  • Early Years (preschool): 12:45 pm to 1:45 pm
  • Primary and Secondary Schools: from 2:45 pm to 4:30 pm
  • Saturdays: from 8:00 am to 9:30 am

The BIS is bilingual, offering English as a second language. It is taught in the same way as to students whose first language is English. In addition, French is taught as a third language starting in Year 6 (4th grade).

EL BIS follows Calendar B. The school year begins in mid-August and ends in the first week of June. There is also a break from mid-December to mid-January. Our school calendar also includes breaks in October, the Barranquilla Carnival, and Holy Week.

Yes. We have a school bus available for students in grades Y3 through Y13, within the coverage area, for an additional cost.

Yes, we have an orientation process for new children, which includes emotional support from the wellbeing department. We also hold an activity at the beginning of the year, a week before classes start, where the children tour the facilities and participate in fun activities to help them settle in.

Yes. We have a daily uniform, a formal uniform, a physical education uniform, and a house system T-shirt. Additional sports equipment is also required if the student represents our school on any sports team.
